Well, after doing a great deal of research and reading the reviews here and somewhere else, I decided to purchase RoadPro RP-203EC 12V 12' Extension Cord with Cigarette Lighter Plug. Though I 'd have chosen a much better warranty, I chose the features were attractive enough to attempt it. It is a great deal of cash to toss away if it falls short just after the guarantee. I am absolutely in love with this product. It is high quality product, wise functions. I simply got it today, and I will update my testimonial later on if needed.

My cable was marked 0.75MM (squared). A web search showed this to be somewhere in between 20 and 22 AWG.
The wire size should be given in the Amazon listing. This cable would probably be fine to charge an iPhone or iPod, but I would not use it with any tools, larger lights, air compressors, etc. (I could find no fuse.)
The AMP rating is not on the wire, nor on the packaging, so do your own careful research before using.
Other than the low current carrying capacity the quality of construction looks good (made in Taiwan not China).

Most Underlined Buyer Review : Works well, although last one did break eventually
I had one of these that got daily use for about a year before the socket portion cracked and I had to replace it. Even so, I'd definitely say that I got my money's worth and it worked fine up until that point. I bought it again as a replacement. The cord is pretty long, so you if don't really need 12 feet, you might want to use to twist ties to keep a portion of it wrapped up.
