We simply purchased this SoleusAir 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Evaporative Single Hose, # KY-80, making use of the discount and the free shipping after reviewing some of the previous testimonials prior to purchasing the product. Up until now so good. I am absolutely in love with this item from Soleus Air, Made it the very best price on the web when we bought it initially of this month.

Small for a portable, works great.
I found mine locally for $250, and figured that's a pretty good price for a portable. We needed something small and efficient for a warm upstairs bedroom. Since our windows crank out I couldn't easily use the window kit. Instead, I installed the unit in a closet and put a hole through the house to vent it outside. The hole (and outside vent cover) is directly behind the exhaust port and minimal tubing was needed to vent. That way it sits close to the wall and there's no clumsy hose (6" diameter hose!) taking up space.

I like that portables are quieter and generally more energy-efficient than cheaper window units. However, it's still an air conditioner and there is still compressor noise. The 4-speed fan on low is quiet enough, but the compressor still has to turn on and off so there will be some disturbance for light sleepers. I use ear plugs anyway, so no prob.

Operationally I've had no trouble keeping the bedroom as cool as I need (about 72 degrees)considering...

SoleusAir 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner, Evaporative Single Hose, # KY-80 Explanation

Our evaporative portable a/c unit offers a 38.4 pint dehumidifier that reduces unwanted moisture using our unique evaporative process, by removing moisture from the air and drips onto the condenser. The condenser evaporates the water and exhaust it out of the exhaust hose with the hot air. If the water is not fully evaporated it is dripped into a small pan and then pumped back up to be evaporated by the condenser. Features a programmable timer that shuts the unit on/off and remembers all settings, along with a sleep mode that automatically increases set temperature to conserve energy. LCD remote control operates and displays all settings. The single hose exhaust system provides quick spot cooling and 3 speed fan with 4 way adjustable louvers for increased circulation. Also includes a washable and reusable air filter that reduces dust and other airborne particles, and heavy duty casters attached for easy portability. More powerful, more reliable and more energy efficient.
